The shooting of Piotr Domalewski’s new film “Ministranci [Altar Boys]” has come to an end! The director of such hits as “Silent Night” and “Sexify” returns with a comedy-drama full of irony and rebellion, which is sure to surprise and move audiences. “The Altar Boys ’ is the story of a group of teenage altar boys from a poor parish who, armed with youthful rebellion and their own interpretation of the Bible, decide to bug… the confessional. Disguised like Zorro and with Robin Hood-like ambitions, they become judges in their neighbourhood world, helping those in need and meting out punishment for sins. But their mission turns into a dangerous game when the line between good and evil begins to blur.
The film’s director and screenwriter Piotr Domalewski said: ‘The Altar Boys is a film that deals with difficult topics in a light, sometimes absurd way. I wanted to create a story that would be a metaphor for the problems of today’s young people – a film that is both touching and entertaining.
The film will feature young talents, including Tobiasz Wajda, Bruno Blach-Baar and brothers Mikołaj and Filip Juszczyk, supported by acclaimed actors such as Kamila Urzędowska, Tomasz Schuchardt, Sławomir Orzechowski and Artur Paczesny.
Award-winning cinematographer Piotr Sobociński Jr. is responsible for the cinematography, perfectly capturing the harshness of the blocks of flats and the moral dilemmas of the eponymous altar boys. The film, produced by Aurum Film (‘Corpus Christi’, ‘Kos’, ‘The Last Family’), combines superhero themes with the reality of the Polish countryside – but instead of capes, the heroes wear surplices.
“The Altar Boys ’ is a story about growing up, faith and the fight against hypocrisy – told with humour, energy and distance. The film is scheduled for release in 2025, and will be distributed in Poland by NEXT FILM.
THE ALTAR BOYS
A group of teenage altar boys, frustrated by the indifferent attitude of adults and Church institutions towards social injustice, decide to implement their own unusual plan for moral renewal. Armed with youthful rebellion and their own interpretation of the Bible, they set up a bug… in the confessional to get to know their neighbours better. Masked like Zorro and with Robin Hood-like ambitions, they become judges in their neighbourhood world, helping those in need and meting out punishment for sins. However, their mission turns into a dangerous game and the boys, applying their own idealistic code of honour, begin to balance on the thin line between good and evil. Real life of the block party mixes with a mission straight out of superhero comics, but instead of capes, the heroes wear suplices.
