“The Ikea Generation”, directed by Dawid Gral, is an adaptation of the eponymous best-seller. For the main character, random sex, erotic fantasies and quick romances are just a starting point to tell a story about the lives of the contemporary generation. The leading actors are Bartosz Gelner and Michalina Olszańska. The film will hit the screens on 10 March 2023.
Piotr Czarny is a charming lawyer of thirty-something. He is constantly in pursuit of adrenaline, women and parties. His goal is to fill the list of lovers with names starting with each letter of the alphabet. His plan is put to the test, when his colleague from work, Olga – the only person he is completely honest with and does not sleep with – gives him an ultimatum.
Following the cynical and hedonistic protagonist, we enter the world of random sex, quick dates and one-night stands offered to us by web applications. The film is an uninhibited depiction of people who have been taught by the easy availability of all commodities that everything can be replaced cheaply and without thought – whether it’s a computer, furniture, an apartment or even a relationship.
– The most important part of this story for me was the ability to freely talk about sex, about why so many people use dating apps. I do not think there is anything taboo about it – in the 21st century, saying that you enjoy sex is nothing bad – says Bartosz Gelner.
– The book is first and foremost a satire of our generation. This is the most important part for me, and that is how I try to play my character – adds Michalina Olszańska.
The parts of Piotr and Olga will be played by Bartosz Gelner and Michalina Olszańska. The remaining cast will include (among others): Majka Jeżowska, Paweł Małaszyński, Jan Aleksandrowicz-Kraśko, Sławomir Mandes, Dagmara Bryzek, Adrianna Izydorczyk, Zuzanna Galewicz, Mateusz Dymidziuk and – debuting on the big screen – Adi Nowak.
“The Ikea Generation” is a screen adaptation of a best-selling book by Piotr C. This is a pen name for the author of 6 best-selling novels, including the most controversial one, published in episodes in the Angora magazine, titled: “The Ikea Generation”. The author has never revealed his identity. “The Ikea Generation” sold more than 150 thousand copies, and it has been listed 32nd in the ranking of the “Top 100 books to read” according to Polish Internet users. The books of Piotr C. have been nominated twice for Empik best-sellers – “Dirt” was nominated in 2016 and “Celebrity” in 2020. September 2022 saw the publication of the latest novel by Piotr C., “Roman(ce)”.
