The new edition of Reymont’s most famous work accompanies the film “The Peasants” directed by DK Welchman and Hugh Welchman, which delighted audiences and critics at the festivals in Toronto and Gdynia. At the latter it won four awards: the Special Jury Award, the Audience Award, the Elle Crystal Star (Kamila Urzędowska) and the Chopard & W. Kruk: Chopard loves cinema award (Kamila Urzędowska).
The film was made using the painted-animation technique, just like the previous production of the BreakThru Films studio, the film hailed as a masterpiece – “Loving Vincent”. The picture draws on the painting of the Young Poland period, which perfectly captures the mood of Reymont’s prose. The screen features interpretations of works by artists such as Józef Chełmoński, Ferdynand Ruszczyc and Leon Wyczółkowski, and stills from the film appear in the new edition of the novel as colour illustrations in seven special inserts.
