The Pin
Premiere 24.10.2025
Movie description
Artur Szpilka is not only one of the most recognisable faces of Polish sport, but also a man who has made his life a ring. ‘Szpilka’ is the story of an athlete and of a man who has had to pick himself up many times after blows – including those dealt by life. The film documents both the fighter’s spectacular career in professional boxing and his latest challenges in the world of MMA.
Filip Dzierżawski, the filmmaker who made a name for himself with the well-received documentary Love, about the history and reactivation of the eponymous music band, isresponsible for directing. The picture won the Golden Hobby-Horse and the Audience Award at the 53rd Krakow Film Festival.
In Dzierżawski’s lens, Szpilka is not only a tough guy in the ring, but also a man with an unspoken sensitivity, struggling with his past, depression and his own demons. Dzierżawski once again looks beneath the surface – this time into a world where physical strength can be a shield, but also a burden. The film is based on hours of interviews, observations, unpublished archive footage and recordings from the most important moments of his career.
‘The Pin’ is a story about determination and the price one pays for dreams. About a masculinity that the protagonist has to redefine. And about a man who is still learning to win – also outside the ring, accepting himself.
