A third film distributed by NEXT FILM has made it into the lineup of the 51st Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. “ÒPI”, directed by Marta Giec, has qualified for the Perspectives Competition — a section showcasing distinctive auteur visions and new voices in Polish cinema. The film is a psychological horror inspired by Kashubian folk beliefs, starring Wiktoria Kruszczyńska, Magdalena Boczarska, Gabriela Muskała and Iwona Bielska. It is produced by Platige Films.

“ÒPI” is the feature-length fiction debut of Marta Giec, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Dominika Kłoczewiak. The film tells the story of eighteen-year-old Trina, who is trying to break free from a stifling relationship with her mother and a home full of tension, unspoken truths and family traumas. The arrival of her aunt Helena and her paralysed grandmother Regina sets off a chain of events in which everyday life becomes ever more tightly entwined with Kashubian folk beliefs and Trina’s nightmares.
The film blends psychological drama with folk horror, drawing inspiration from Kashubian folklore. It is the story of a girl trying to reclaim her own voice — a tale of violence, inherited trauma and the line between what is real and what has been repressed. In the Perspectives Competition, “ÒPI” will compete for the Sapphire Lions.
NEXT FILM is handling the film’s distribution in Poland. “ÒPI” is the third title distributed by the company to make it into this year’s festival lineup in Gdynia. Earlier, “Our Revolution”, directed by Piotr Domalewski, and “Time That Never Came”, directed by Julia Rogowska, qualified for the Main Competition of the 51st Polish Film Festival and the race for the Golden Lions.
The film will be released in cinemas in early 2027.
