The world premiere of the family film ‘Gnome. A New Beginning’ will take place during the 78th edition of the Locarno International Film Festival. Krzysztof Komander’s feature debut has been selected for screening in the Locarno Kids Screening section. The Locarno Festival takes place from 6 to 16 August and is one of the oldest and most prestigious film events in the world. It attracts more than 150,000 spectators every year.

– I am insanely happy. The Locarno Film Festival is one of the festivals with the greatest traditions. I must admit frankly that when writing, directing and editing the film ‘Gnome. A New Beginning’, I never imagined that it could have such a rich festival life. I wanted it to appeal to cinema audiences, and it turns out that I succeeded in doing both,’ says Krzysztof Komander, scriptwriter, director and editor of ‘Skrzat. A New Beginning’.

– I am extremely proud that our film has qualified for such a prestigious festival. It is an extraordinary distinction and confirmation that our work has been appreciated. ‘Gnome. A New Beginning’ is the fruit of a huge commitment from the cast and crew, who put all their hearts into making it. We hope that the story presented in the film will move the audience and make them think. We would like to thank the festival for the opportunity given to us and we are looking forward to the premiere,” adds the film’s producer, Dagmara Piasecka.

ABOUT THE FILM ‘GNOME. A NEW BEGINNING”

Eleven-year-old Hania has to find herself in a completely new environment after moving to another town. She has no friends here and, in addition, her belief in the existence of gnomes exposes her to ridicule from her peers. When the girls in her class take away her locket – a priceless family heirloom – Hania decides to get it back at all costs. To do so, she must prove that gnomes really exist. In this adventurous mission, she is helped by Michal, the school outsider and young inventor. It is thanks to his support that Hania will open up to the world again and understand that real magic is hidden in friendship.

The leading role in the film is played by Amelia Golda, who makes her big screen debut with the character of Hania. Her friend Michał is played by Maksymilian Zielinski, while her dad is played by Arkadiusz Jakubik. The cast also includes Anna Smołowik, Wojciech Solarz and Agata Turkot. Borys Szyc was also involved in the project in a special role.

The film ‘Skrzat. A New Beginning’ is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, the Czech Audiovisual Fund, Usti Region, FKUK and the Silesian Film Fund. Distribution in Poland is handled by NEXT FILM.

The Polish premiere of the film “Skrzat. A New Beginning’ is scheduled for 19 September.
