The red carpet, the flash of lights and emotions that cannot be faked. Warsaw’s Helios Blue City hosted the premiere of the film ‘Szpilka’ – the story of one of Poland’s most expressive athletes, which shows that the real fight is not in the ring, but in the head and heart of a man.

Sport, emotion and the glitter of Warsaw’s salons

The evening flowed to the rhythm of sporting excitement and film glitz. There was no shortage of stars from the world of sport and show business at the premiere. The guests included Artur Szpilka’s next opponent in KSW – Michal Martinek, as well as Lexy Chaplin, Izu Ugonoh, Wojtek Gola, Łukasz “Juras” Jurkowski, Patrycja Wieja and Paweł Tyburski.

The opening gala was hosted by Mateusz Borek, who has been involved with Polish boxing for many years, who reminded us what a unique figure Szpilka remains for Polish sport – unbowed, emotional but always true.

‘The Pin’ – a film about a man who became his own greatest adversary

The film is not a classic sports biography. It is a portrait of a man who – despite his success and popularity – struggles with his own demons. It shows not only the journey from the ring to the octagon, but above all the struggle for inner peace and self-understanding.

There is no shortage of adrenaline, anger and pain on screen, but also reflection and hope. The filmmakers have dispensed with cheap sensationalism – instead giving voice to the protagonist, who himself speaks with detachment and honesty about mistakes, failures and the fact that no one is indestructible.

Film description:

‘The Pin’ is an emotionally charged portrait of an athlete whose career generated huge excitement and international interest. Among other things, the film shows the backstage of the fight for the heavyweight championship of the world with Deontay Wilder. A fight that went down in boxing history. But the documentary directed by Filip Dzierżawski is much more than the story of Szpilka’s professional achievements. It is the story of his personal struggles – a fight against the pressure of his surroundings and, above all, against himself. Thanks to archive footage, previously unpublished footage and statements from loved ones and experts, viewers get a picture of a man for whom sport has become a way of life – alternately winging him and dragging him down to the bottom.
