WHAT IS THE FILM ABOUT?
Eleven-year-old Hania has to find herself in a completely new environment after moving to another town. She has no friends here and, in addition, her belief in the existence of gnomes exposes her to ridicule from her peers. When the girls in her class take away her locket – a priceless family heirloom – Hania decides to get it back at all costs. To do so, she must prove that gnomes really exist. In this adventurous mission, she is helped by Michal, the school outsider and young inventor. It is thanks to his support that Hania will open up to the world again and understand that real magic is hidden in friendship.
‘Skrzat. A New Beginning’ is an absorbing Polish adventure film that will touch the hearts and spark the imagination of children and adults alike.

A CINEMA FULL OF DEBUTS – WHO WILL STAR IN THE FILM?
‘Skrzat. A New Beginning’ is a project of many debuts – Krzysztof Komander is behind the camera of a full-length feature film for the first time. For the first time, Amelia Golda, playing the main character, will appear on the big screen. The film also proved a completely new challenge for experienced actors, including Arkadiusz Jakubik, who had never before appeared in a family film. What convinced him to take on a role so different from the ones we have seen him in so far?
– The script. With me it doesn’t change,’ says Arkadiusz Jakubik. – It doesn’t matter whether it’s a psychological drama, a comedy or a family film. As always, the script is the beginning or the end of the conversation about collaboration. Krzysiek Komander wrote a great story which moved me immensely and made me laugh where necessary.

The actor also praises Amelia Golda, who plays the role of his daughter Hania.
– I saw Amelia for the first time in the casting finale. When we played the scene, I immediately knew it had to be Hania. Amelka has incredible acting ability, intuition and something that makes you want to look at her on screen. On top of that, she is an incredibly alert actress. On set, the director often didn’t switch off the camera after a scene had been played, so that Amelka and I could improvise. It worked out great for her. A lot of these improvised dialogues made it into the film.
‘Gnome. A New Beginning’ is a film with a message. An intelligent entertainment that is a great starting point for conversations about important issues that not only children but also their parents have to face. The film touches on issues of peer violence, facing life’s changes or responsibility for the nature around us.
– I would like viewers to leave the cinema hall with the conviction that it is worth believing in yourself and your dreams, that it is not worth suggesting what others say about you, that it is worth fighting for what is important to you, that it is worth looking forward, not backward, and finally that we only have one planet, so it is our duty to take care of it,” says Amelia Golda, playing the main character, Hania.
Apart from Amelia Golda and Arkadiusz Jakubik, the cast also includes Maksymilian Zieliński, Anna Smołowik, Wojciech Solarz and Agata Turkot. Borys Szyc was also involved in the project in a special role.
