“In-Laws 2” with a new, full-length trailer.

In cinemas from 15 September

They nearly killed one another in the course of a single evening — so what will happen during a three-day stay at a seaside hotel? The in-laws will once again have audiences laughing to tears and give them food for thought. The sequel to the comedy hit that won over audiences and critics alike arrives in cinemas on 15 September. Maja Ostaszewska, Izabela Kuna, Adam Woronowicz and Ewa Dałkowska return, joined this time by Eryk Kulm jr and Andrzej Zieliński. “In-Laws 2” is directed by Kalina Alabrudzińska. Today we present the film’s official trailer.

– I really like comedies. I believe the intelligent ones don’t dumb you down — they give you room to breathe. Distance. Laughter is like medicine, a release valve for tensions and stress. With “In-Laws 2”, of course we laugh during the screening — it is funny — but reflection comes afterwards. Marek Modzelewski, who wrote both films, uses a light touch to show our awful traits as well, how deceitful we can be. He portrays our national vices along with our individual ones. He upends stereotypical thinking about couples. This part has a great deal to say about hypocrisy, about denying ourselves the right to simply be who we are. There is also a strong thread about women freeing themselves from convention — from an artificially imposed vision of what is proper and what it is supposedly too late for once we are mature. I came back to “In-Laws 2” with enormous joy; it is a wise comedy – says Maja Ostaszewska, who plays Małgorzata.

Will there be a wedding this time? Weronika and Łukasz — the almost-newlyweds from the first film — decide to give themselves a second chance and invite the family to their wedding and reception in a seaside town. Among the guests are characters viewers already know well: Wanda and Tadeusz with their dog Mirelka, as well as the divorced Małgorzata accompanied by… Jan, a dozen or so years her junior, and by her mother. The sea, the drinks and the scantily clad beachgoers all make the members of the couple’s families open up more and more, dropping one mask after another.

“In-Laws 2” is a comic and ironic tale about the state of a marriage of thirty years’ standing, about the generational age gap in a relationship — still seemingly a taboo subject — and about whether getting married is worth it at all.

Maja Ostaszewska, Izabela Kuna, Adam Woronowicz and Ewa Dałkowska met again on the set of “In-Laws 2”. They were joined by Eryk Kulm jr and Andrzej Zieliński.

As with the first film, the screenplay is by Marek Modzelewski and the film is directed by Kalina Alabrudzińska.
