Quick sex has never been more available – something the characters of “The Ikea Generation”, the film adaptation of the bestselling book of the same title by Piotr C., know all too well. In the age of dating apps everything is within arm’s reach – a night with no strings attached, a fantasy fulfilled, a new lover, a new partner. But is that enough? This is the world that “The Ikea Generation” portrays, with distance and irony. It is erotic cinema focused on a male protagonist. The teaser has just gone online. In cinemas from 3 March 2023.
THE GENERATION THAT MADE SCREWING ITS LIFE’S GOAL
“The first time I heard about the alphabet of women was in high school. Each letter is a woman’s name. The order and the number – irrelevant” – that is how the film’s Piotr Czarny begins his story. He works at a law firm and led a minimalist lifestyle back in his student days. Now he is making up for it. When he is not at the office, he is on the prowl. His looks and style guarantee him success with women. He can pick up almost any woman – and he takes advantage of that at every opportunity.
CORPORATE JOBS, MORTGAGES, QUICK SEX – BIG-CITY LIFE IN A NUTSHELL
– The most important inspirations for “The Ikea Generation” are the films “Don Jon” (dir. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, 2013) and “Bridget Jones’s Diary” (dir. Sharon Maguire), which hid a social message about relationships beneath a veneer of shallow commercialism and colour-saturated imagery. Piotr C.’s writing captures the changes in male-female relationships in Poland over recent years – says Dawid Gral, the film’s director.
– The director portrays Czarny with exceptional sensitivity, humour and, above all, without needless moralising. I am certain that “The Ikea Generation” will appeal not only to fans of Piotr C.’s series, but that it will also resonate with everyone who these days finds it not so easy to talk about what matters most. About love – adds Monika Raj, the film’s producer.
Bartosz Gelner and Michalina Olszańska star as Piotr and Olga. The cast also includes: Majka Jeżowska, Paweł Małaszyński, Jan Aleksandrowicz-Kraśko, Sławomir Mandes, Dagmara Bryzek, Adrianna Izydorczyk, Zuzanna Galewicz, Mateusz Dymidziuk, Marta Bryła and – for the first time on the big screen – Adi Nowak.

THE IKEA GENERATION
Release date: 03.03.2023
genre: romance
SYNOPSIS:
Piotr Czarny is a charming thirty-something lawyer. He is forever chasing adrenaline, women and parties. He has set himself the goal of filling his list of lovers with a name for every letter of the alphabet. His plan is thrown into doubt when his work colleague Olga – the only woman he is completely honest with and does not sleep with – gives him an ultimatum.
Following this cynical, hedonistic protagonist, we plunge into a world of casual sex, quick dates and one-night stands served up by online apps. The film paints an unprudish portrait of people whom easy access to goods has taught that everything can be replaced cheaply and without a second thought – a computer, furniture, a flat, even a relationship.
