Half a million viewers have already seen “Johnny”, the NEXT FILM production directed by Daniel Jaroszek. It is the second-best result for a Polish film at the domestic box office in 2022. Meanwhile, Patryk Galewski’s cookbook is making its debut in bookshops – it was the story of his life that inspired the film’s creators.
Since its premiere on 23 September, “Johnny” has remained on the box-office podium. Another hit is the book “Johnny. Powieść o księdzu Janie Kaczkowskim”, which complements the story told in the film. Its author is Maciej Kraszewski, the screenwriter of “Johnny” (published by Wydawnictwo Agora, available among other places at the Kulturalny Sklep: https://bit.ly/3ygwGw9.).
A vinyl with the soundtrack is also on the market. It features two timeless covers performed by Dawid Podsiadło: “Nic nie może wiecznie trwać” from Anna Jantar’s repertoire and “Bóg” from the repertoire of the band T.Love, as well as two brand-new songs written and performed by Kukon and Dawid Karpiuk especially for the film’s soundtrack. The score was composed by Michał Kush, a multiple Fryderyk award winner, multi-platinum producer and composer, and the creator of all of Daria Zawiałow’s albums to date. “Kuchnia na pełnej petardzie”
Today, Patryk Galewski’s cookbook (he is played in the film by Piotr Trojan) arrives in bookshops, written after shooting on “Johnny” wrapped. It is not just a collection of great recipes – it is also the story of the complicated life of a young man who went through a great deal of hardship before finally winning at life.
Today Patryk Galewski is a fantastic cook, head chef of the Kutter restaurant, a happy husband and a father of three. But it was not always this way, and his road to where he is now was a bumpy one. “I met him as a punishment,” says Patryk Galewski, the hero of the book and of the film “Johnny”. They met at the hospice founded by Father Jan in Puck, where Patryk ended up after serving his sentence, to do community service for a while. “It was Johnny who, once he realised I liked cooking, persuaded me to become a chef. He gave me a second chance – if it were not for him, I would never have straightened out my life,” says Patryk.
“Kuchnia na pełnej petardzie” is a fantastic story told through flavours and aromas. Readers will find out which dishes Patryk dreamed of in prison, what he cooked for Father Jan’s hospice patients, what dishes he prepares for the guests of his restaurant, and what he cooks at home for his wife and kids.
