“Johnny” is conquering cinemas and audiences’ hearts at full throttle! The film directed by Daniel Jaroszek, in general release since Friday, has already been seen by 100,558 people. That result secured “Johnny” a decisive first place in the box office ranking.
– With a clear conscience I can recommend this film to anyone. It is an absolutely unique story in which humour mixes with serious themes, yet they are served up in an accessible way. I am convinced that everyone will find something for themselves here – says director Daniel Jaroszek.
“Johnny” premiered at the 47th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, where it won as many as four awards, including the one voted by the audience. Piotr Trojan (best leading actor), Marta Stalmierska (best acting debut, also for the film “Apokawixa”) and Dawid Ogrodnik (the Golden Kangaroo – the award of Australian film distributors) also received honours.

The list of cinemas showing “Johnny” is available on the page with screening times. To ensure the comfort of all viewers, the distributor has also scheduled screenings in cinemas equipped with the AudioMovie system, which makes it possible to show the film with audio description. These are: Kino Pod Baranami in Kraków, Kino Światowid in Katowice, Kino Światowid in Elbląg, the Wadowice Cultural Centre, Kino Janosik in Żywiec, Kino Nowe Horyzonty in Wrocław, Kino Helios in Sosnowiec, Kino Elektronik in Warsaw, Kino Muza in Poznań, Kinoteka – the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw, the Lower Silesian Film Centre in Wrocław, BeCeK in Bytom, and Kino Kryterium in Koszalin.
The “Johnny” soundtrack
On Friday, a vinyl with the soundtrack from “Johnny” arrives on the market, featuring among others the single promoting the film, “Nie zrozumie nas”, performed by Dawid Karpiuk.
The album will also be available on all streaming services.
The score was composed by Michał Kush, a multiple Fryderyk award winner, multi-platinum producer and composer, and the creator of all of Daria Zawiałow’s albums to date.
What “Johnny” is about
“Johnny” is a story based on true events that moves and inspires. It is told from the perspective of Patryk Galewski, a young man in the care of Father Jan Kaczkowski who did not have an easy start in life.
Patryk breaks into a house in a small town. A court sentence orders him to do community service at the hospice in Puck, where he meets the remarkable Father Jan Kaczkowski. The priest gets young vocational-school boys, seemingly hardened rebels, involved in helping the sick. In his work he focuses on closeness, tenderness and fighting for relationships with other people. He teaches empathy. And he does it with wholesale amounts of humour, which wins him enormous popularity. Not long afterwards, Jan himself faces the challenge of battling an illness. Patryk finds himself in a situation that will change his entire life.
The makers of “Johnny”
The charismatic priest Jan Kaczkowski is played by Dawid Ogrodnik. Patryk Galewski is played by Piotr Trojan, winner of multiple awards for his performance in “25 lat niewinności. Sprawa Tomka Komendy”. On screen we will also see, among others, Magdalena Czerwińska, Anna Dymna, Maria Pakulnis, Marta Stalmierska, Witold Dębicki, Michał Kaleta and Joachim Lamża.
The film is directed by Daniel Jaroszek, who has so far worked on projects in the advertising industry. “Johnny” is his feature debut. The screenplay is by Maciej Kraszewski, who also wrote the book “Johnny. Powieść o księdzu Janie Kaczkowskim”.
The producer is Robert Kijak (NEXT FILM).
