“F_cking Bornholm”, directed by Anna Kazejak, has been selected for the 56th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The film will be presented in the Main Competition – the Crystal Globe Competition.
The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is considered the most prestigious film event in Central and Eastern Europe. It is also one of the oldest A-category film festivals (alongside Cannes, Berlin, Venice and San Sebastian, among others). Every year, the best film of the Main Competition is honoured with the Crystal Globe statuette.
So far, “F_cking Bornholm” has been presented at the Off Camera festival in Krakow, and it has been showing in Polish cinemas since 6 May. Its participation in the Karlovy Vary festival will mark the beginning of the film’s international journey.

Here is what the press wrote about the film:
It is a film about contemporary morality, about ambitions, about relationships and emotions, about love and sex. About a feeling that burns out amid everyday duties. But also about the rebellion of a mature woman. (Barbara Hollender, Rzeczpospolita)
If this is a midlife crisis, it has finally been shown from a woman’s perspective. (Zofia Fabjanowska, Zwierciadło)
The Polish Mother stereotype has had its day. And good riddance. Let us bid her farewell once and for all! The Polish Mother’s husband too. (Martyna Harland, Filmoterapia)
It reminds us that when we choose to live for others, it is worth remembering to put on your own oxygen mask first. (Dawid Dudko, Onet)
ABOUT THE FILM:
This May Day getaway is far from hygge… “F_cking Bornholm” is a portrait of today’s generation of forty-somethings, a contemporary comedy-drama that touches on the theme of identity in times when the patterns we have known so far have ceased to matter. The film is based on the Empik Go audio series, winner of an Empik Bestseller award.
