Camping, a May Day getaway, a crisis – “F_cking Bornholm”, directed by Anna Kazejak, is a tragicomic portrait of forty-somethings and an irony-filled tale of freeing yourself from the expectations of others. Starring Agnieszka Grochowska, Maciej Stuhr, Jaśmina Polak and Grzegorz Damięcki. The film is taking part in the Polish Feature Film Competition of the OFF Camera festival in Krakow. “F_cking Bornholm” is based on the Empik Go audio series, winner of an Empik Bestseller award.
Ania Kazejak, screenwriter and director, says: “F_cking Bornholm” is the story of Maja, who discovers that all the roles she has played, within her family and beyond, no longer suit her. […] I really wanted to make a film that is a little different from what we have in Polish cinema. I didn’t want it to be a drama, I didn’t want it to be a comedy – this film is closest to a tragicomedy. My whole task was to keep that balance, not to fall into any extreme. This story, just like our lives, is very funny, but in its message it is also very profound and at times dramatic, so we try to play it out very skilfully, with plenty of shading.
Maciej Stuhr plays Hubert, the husband of the main character:
– It is probably the first time I have come across a character who neither murders innocent women, nor tells some far-fetched story in the style of a romantic comedy, nor runs around with a gun. We are telling a true-to-life story from the kind of circle of people we ourselves move in. I am not saying it is a film about us, but I have the impression that these characters are extremely close to us, because they find themselves in a situation we could easily find ourselves in.
