TOO OLD FOR FAIRY TALES – a star-studded gala premiere

Can you be too old for fairy tales? Guests invited to the gala premiere of Kristoffer Rus’s film “Too Old for Fairy Tales” went looking for the answer to that question yesterday. The evening at Warsaw’s Helios cinema was all about nurturing childhood passions, stepping into adulthood and facing up to difficult subjects. It was a wonderful, very family-oriented evening. The film opens in cinemas this Friday.

Without a doubt, the evening belonged to the young actors playing the film’s leading roles – Maciej Karaś, Patryk Siemek and Amelia Fijałkowska delighted the assembled audience with their talent and were more than happy to pose for photos. They were joined on the red carpet by Karolina Gruszka, who plays the mother of Waldek (Maciej Karaś) in the film, and by the film’s director Kristoffer Rus. Most important of all, however, was the audience’s verdict – and it was unanimous. All the guests left the screening amused and moved, and admitted that this is a film that will stay in their memory for a long time.

The film’s main character is Waldek (Maciej Karaś), whose life, filled mainly with computer games, is hit by a real earthquake. While his mother (Karolina Gruszka) is away, he is left in the care of his crazy, unpredictable aunt (Dorota Kolak), who introduces discipline – something entirely foreign to him – and imposes new responsibilities. But although his extraordinary relative puts Waldek through a real survival camp, along the way the boy receives from her the most valuable lesson of his life.

The film is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute and co-produced by the Mazovia and Warsaw Film Fund. The film is produced by Pokromski Studio.

The screenplay is based on the book of the same title and was written by its author, Agnieszka Dąbrowska. The book has received so many positive reviews from parents and teachers that it has even been hailed as required reading for children.
