Growing up and first love, an overprotective mum and a madcap aunt, a friendship on the rocks and a big gaming tournament. As you can see, the life of a 10-year-old esports player is quite a challenge. “Too Old for Fairy Tales” is a wonderfully warm, funny and touching story about how to face life’s difficult moments. Karolina Gruszka, Dorota Kolak, Andrzej Grabowski and rising screen stars Maciej Karaś, Patryk Siemek and Amelia Fijałkowska guide viewers into a world of children’s passions, hidden dreams and the trials of growing up. Directed by Kristoffer Rus, “Too Old for Fairy Tales” arrives in cinemas on 18 March. And today we present the film’s teaser.
A real earthquake shakes up Waldek’s life, filled mostly with computer games. While his mum is away, he is left in the care of his madcap, unpredictable aunt, who introduces a discipline he has never known before and imposes new duties. But although his extraordinary relative puts Waldek through a genuine survival camp, along the way the boy receives from her the most precious lesson of his life.
The screenplay is based on the book of the same title and was written by its author, Agnieszka Dąbrowska. The book has won so much praise among parents and teachers that it has been all but hailed as required reading for children.

It is a story about coming of age and about Waldek breaking free from under the wing of his loving mum, with whom he shares a beautiful bond. Teresa loves her son dearly. Yet, struggling with her own problems, fears and frustrations, she often pours them onto the boy, not letting him grow up and become independent. “She tries so hard to take care of her son that she keeps him permanently wrapped in cotton wool,” says Karolina Gruszka, the film’s Teresa, the main character’s mum.

Spoilt ten-year-old Waldek (Maciej Karaś) wants to compete in Europe’s biggest gaming tournament. His mum’s illness (Karolina Gruszka) and his eccentric aunt (Dorota Kolak) seem to stand in the way of his dream coming true, but unexpectedly it is thanks to them that the boy will gain something more than a tournament victory.
