I believe comedy drama is the most difficult genre. I’m simply driven by emotions, and if a viewer is going to pay for a cinema ticket, I want them to experience something for that price” – says Aleksander Pietrzak about his film. From 13 August, “Black Sheep” will make audiences laugh and cry in cinemas all over Poland.

It is the director’s second feature film. His previous production, “Juliusz”, delighted a wide audience and competed for the Golden Lions in the Main Competition of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. “Black Sheep” also has the potential to win over festival audiences. The film will be previewed at the Ińskie Lato Filmowe festival and the Summer Film Academy in Zwierzyniec, and in September in the Polish Feature Film competition of Mastercard Off Camera in Kraków. The screenings will be accompanied by Q&As with the filmmakers.

“Black Sheep” is a bittersweet story about a modern family in which everyone has had enough of something. When the crises, conflicts and desires suppressed for years finally explode, everyone starts living on their own terms. Or at least that’s what they think… Will the family members find their happiness? It is a film about bonds that cannot be broken. In a funny way, it answers important questions about family relationships and growing into change.

Aleksander Pietrzak, director:

The film touches on several themes, such as the choice between career and family, growing into fatherhood, trying to find your feet in a completely new life situation, but above all, I think, this film is about how a child creates a bond forever. The two most beautiful emotions are laughter and tears. That is what a comedy drama can give us, and that – I hope – is what “Black Sheep” will give us.

Anna Waśniewska, producer:

It is a universal story about the road to maturity in which each of us can find ourselves. In a funny way, it shows generational differences, problems arising from a lack of communication, and the fear of showing one’s true feelings. We were interested in showing the truth about family and the various moments in the life of a small community. Funny, sometimes sad and frightening. After the difficult experience we have shared over the past year, we know that everyone is now hungry for positive emotions, and those will certainly be delivered by Alek Pietrzak’s film “Black Sheep”.
