Alongside Kamila Urzędowska, Robert Gulaczyk, Mirosław Baka, Andrzej Konopka, Ewa Kasprzyk and Sonia Mietielica, the set also welcomed Małgorzata Kożuchowska, Sonia Bohosiewicz, Maciej Musiał, Dorota Stalińska, Julia Wieniawa and Mateusz Rusin. The film is produced by the Oscar-nominated creators of “Loving Vincent” – Dorota Kobiela, Hugh Welchman and Sean Bobbitt. The premiere is planned for 2022. Today we present photos from the film set.
The shoot is the first stage in the making of the film, which will be created using the technique of painting animation. Recruitment of painters is currently under way at studios in Poland, Serbia and Ukraine. Editing of the footage will begin shortly, and at the beginning of next year a team of painters will start work at the BreakThru Films studio in Sopot.
– There is an enormous amount of work ahead of us. The technique we have chosen is difficult and time-consuming, but thanks to “Loving Vincent” we know that bringing oil painting to the big screen produces a magical effect, says Piotr Dominiak, artistic director of the BreakThru Films studio.

To create the film, the studio will use its proprietary PAWS (Painting Animation Work Stations), which make it possible to unify the animation and systematise the painters’ work.
Jagna is played by Kamila Urzędowska. The premiere of “The Peasants” is planned for 2022, but BreakThru Films, together with New Europe Film Sales, has already signed the first foreign distribution deal for the film, with France’s The Jokers – the distributor behind last year’s hit “Parasite”, winner of the Palme d’Or and four Oscars.

Director and screenwriter – Dorota Kobiela
A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Originator, co-screenwriter, director and editor of “Loving Vincent”. The film was made with the participation of more than 100 painters from around the world. The world’s first feature-length painting animation won, among others: the European Film Award for Best Animated Feature, the main prize in the animated film competition at the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival, the Polish Film Academy’s Eagle Award for best editing and best production design, and more than 40 other awards around the world. The film was nominated for such prestigious awards as the Oscar®, the BAFTA and the Golden Globe; it also drew large audiences worldwide, becoming the first Polish production in history to cross 40 million dollars at the global box office. Dorota is a member of the American, European and Polish Film Academies. She serves on the artistic committee of the Polish Film Institute.
She has been professionally associated with the BreakThru Films studio for 10 years.
