THE WORLD PREMIERE OF “PLAN B” IN SHANGHAI

20 June 2018

“Plan B” directed by Kinga Dębska will have its world premiere at the International Film Festival in Shanghai (16-25 June). It will be presented in the Panorama section. After earlier screenings in Moscow, this will be the next festival stop the for the production that stars Kinga Preis, Marcin Dorociński, Roma Gąsiorowska and Edyta Olszówka.

The Shanghai International Film Festival is the only Chinese film festival accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) as an international competitive feature film festival, and one of the largest film events in Asia. In previous years two other titles distributed by NEXT FILM were included in the Festival’s official selection: “Loving Vincent” by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman, and “I’m a Killer” by Maciej Pieprzyca. Both titles received awards (“Loving Vincent” for the best animated feature, Maciej Pieprzyca for the best director). The Shanghai festival screening of “Plan B” will also be its official international premiere. Before that the film was presented abroad at a special screening during the closing gala of the “WISŁA” Polish Film Festival in Moscow.

‘I am very glad that “Plan B” is to be shown during the prestigious A-class Shanghai International Film Festival. This is yet another Chinese adventure for me after the successful Chinese screenings of “These Daughters of Mine”. It turns out the audiences there really enjoy the films that I make. I suppose that may be because my films talk about emotions and relationships, about things that we all have in common, no matter the age, the abode, or the colour of skin. I strongly believe that as far as feelings are concerned, all people are the same.’ says Kinga Dębska on taking part in the festival.

The three Shanghai screenings of the film will take place on the 17th and 21st of June. The last screening will be followed by a discussion with the film’s creators. In Poland “Plan B” has also been a success: it won the 3rd National Satire Film Festival “Pyszadło” in Mogilno, beating such titles as “A Man Called Ove”, “The Death of Stalin”, “The Party”, “Panic Attack”, “Gotowi na wszystko. Exterminator” or “Mug”.

The film has just been released on DVD and is now available in shops and on-line.

We meet the characters just before Valentine’s Day, when they come across unexpected events that turn their lives upside down. The situations they’re confronted with lead to unexpected outcomes. Natalia (Kinga Preis), Mirek (Marcin Dorociński), Klara (Roma Gąsiorowska) and Agnieszka (Edyta Olszówka) cross paths with people who help them realise that difficult beginnings may sometimes lead to finding sincere affection and authentic relationships, and that when it comes to living your life, there’s always a “plan B”!

“Plan B” tells a story of a complicated search for love and finding sense in relationships with others. It reminds us that after a storm comes a calm. Karolina Szablewska, who wrote the script, is the author of the first instalment of the “Listy do M.” franchise and of “Po prostu przyjaźń”.
